Two student nurses from UWS Dumfries Campus came along to visit Alma as part of their university project looking at promoting physical activity. The students researched literature to see what activities have been researched as being beneficial to the older generation that would benefit all or at least most individuals at Alma house and then came along and carried out these activities with an interactive session of various exercise activities. This has been the 3rd year we have supported the students who are ever so grateful for our support. Our residents had a fun filled afternoon.read more

January has been a little more relaxed and quite for our residents as we get over the festive period.
Most of our residents have had some one-to-one time with our Activities Coordinator, Esther and have been to the café and a walk round some of the shops in our local town of Dalbeattie. Most of the residents enjoyed reminiscing as they saw some familiar face and areas of the town.
We started the New Year with a plan for healthy eating and starting our daily walks to the village.
Our Therapy dog, Eddie is making a big difference to our home. Eddie is enjoying lots of love and fuss from both our residents and staff.
We have been using the Karaoke machine in which our residents have been enjoying. Singing along to old songs that the residents used to like when they were younger and some of the songs made them reminisce from their younger days. Singing and listening to songs made them talk about all different memories that they had made.read more
