Moving in Guide

So, you have decided to move yourself, or your loved one into one of our care homes. We know that this can be a trying time, but here at St Philips Care, we will do our best to make your move as stress-free as possible.

The more prepared we are for changes, the better equipped we are to cope with the progression. We always recommend visiting the care home as part of your selection process, so that you are not moving into entirely unfamiliar surroundings. Some people find it extremely reassuring to have a taster day or a respite stay in one of our homes before moving in permanently.

When you move into our care home you will be able to bring your personal belongings with you, to make your room your own. Mementos, photographs, and special items will all help you to make your room your special place, full of your memories and loves. Some residents bring a cherished piece of furniture, or pictures that they love. We will always try to accommodate your wishes and desires while considering your safety.

All personal belongings will be itemised when you move in so that we can keep track of your possessions. Whatever clothing you like to wear, and any activities that you enjoy spending time doing can be bought into the home with you. Our rooms have plenty of storage space to keep your belongings safe and out of the way.

The care that we deliver is personalised to you, and part of the moving in process is taking the time to understand your likes and dislikes. We will find out what you like eating, which meals you love and which ones you hate! If you like coffee or tea in the morning, we need to know. All our care is tailored around what you like and what you want. Our sympathetic care staff are trained to deliver care for you.

Our care homes all run a range of varying activities throughout the day. We always welcome all residents to join in the activities, however, if you are happy sitting and reading quietly, or rather some one-to-one time, we will always encourage this to happen. Many of our care homes have activities coordinators who run a full variety of entertainments throughout the day. You may wish to try a new hobby, or perhaps rekindle an old pastime. Residents who wish to share their passion with others are encouraged to do, perhaps you love old photographs of the area, or enjoy crocheting? Whatever it is, we will always help you to fulfil your desires.

When you move into one of our care homes our care staff will spend time with you, making sure that you know where everything is, and that you are settled. If you enjoy spending time outdoors, they will take you around the gardens and show you nice places to sit in our beautiful grounds. They will make sure that you feel happy and comfortable.

Moving into a care home can be daunting, but at St Philips Care we always take the time to make the process as smooth as possible. Our home is your home, let us help you.
